Ordem Ciento
Drawing inspiration from the dynamic movement and lethal footwork of players
Nike Football - Ordem Ciento
Official Match Ball Copa America Centenario
2016
To pay homage to the world's oldest football competition, Nike designed a match ball that seamlessly blends modern features with nostalgic graphics. The black hexagonal outlining nods to classic geometric patterns seen on soccer balls for decades, while bold crimson brush strokes add a visually striking element and serve as cues for players.
The Nike Ordem Ciento, the chosen match ball, boasts the highest level of innovation for match play. Its design prioritizes the consistency and accuracy of ball trajectory through 12 fuse-welded panels and a free-floating carbon latex bladder. The Aerow Trac system of grooves on the ball's panels channels air for enhanced accuracy and stability.
Graphics for this anniversary ball were inspired by the dynamic movements and lethal footwork of players during the tournament. Capturing the energy and speed of the Copa held in the USA, the visuals were crafted from gestural and abstract marks, painted on paper. These expressions, documenting moments of joy and emotion, were compiled into a visual language that uniquely adorned the most innovative ball in football history - the Ordem Ciento.
