Posters for change

A message of inclusion and empowerment

Design for Obama
Posters for Change - Taschen
2009

I was fortunate to have artwork selected and featured in a hardback publication curated by Spike Lee and Aaron Perry-Zucker, expressing support for Barack Obama through "Posters for Change." Graphic innovation played a pivotal role in the historic Obama campaign, with numerous artists and designers contributing posters available for free download on designforobama.org. This curated collection serves as a visual chronicle of one of the most inspiring U.S. presidential campaigns in recent history. The Obama campaign, fueled by a message of inclusion and empowerment, mobilized an unprecedented grassroots organization that resonated with unparalleled enthusiasm.

My artwork playfully reimagined the iconic lyrics from "The Wizard of Oz," using typography to portray Obama as a symbol of potential hope and joy. This whimsical expression came to life through vibrant graphics and a bright, rainbow-like color palette.

Design for Obama provided an online platform for artists, designers, and supporters to share and download artworks, with Shepard Fairey's iconic "Hope" poster becoming the enduring image of the 2008 campaign. Edited by Aaron Perry-Zucker and Spike Lee, this collection features over 200 impactful pro-Obama posters, showcasing contributions from established graphic and street artists to emerging talents. Essays by Spike Lee, Perry-Zucker, and design historian Steven Heller offer context, making this compilation a unique historical document that reflects the widespread visual creativity that significantly contributed to Obama's victory.
